Life-saving legislation

When the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) wanted to pass lifesaving legislation, it turned to the Limestone Group.

ACS CAN wanted health insurers to cover biomarker tests that can help determine the best cancer treatment plans for patients to ensure a customized treatment plan and the gold standard for cancer treatment in the future.

“The Limestone Group has an excellent reputation,” said Doug Hogan, government relations director for ACS CAN. “Jason and Jack are respected and trusted subject matter experts in cancer-related issues. They worked with the bill sponsor to draft the language and helped create a strong coalition to advocate for this much-needed legislation. Their top-quality advice and strategic support certainly helped us move our legislative agenda forward.”

Thanks to the Limestone Group, more Kentuckians have access to cutting-edge biomarker testing so they can get the right treatment at the right time.

ACS CAN is focusing on tobacco prevention and cessation funding in the upcoming legislative session and again will rely on the Limestone Group. Kentucky is seeing more cancer in the prime working and parenting ages of 30 to 50, which is much younger than other states. Hogan said the burden of tobacco usage is the No. 1 problem facing our state.

“Not only is it a tragic and preventable loss of life, but it also results in billions of dollars in health-care costs, including $650 million Medicaid dollars spent each year on cancer-related treatment. Kentucky adults addicted to deadly nicotine products also creates a tremendous burden on the economy. If we don’t have a healthy workforce, the jobs we recruit will go unfilled, and the economic burden will increase.”
